Randall County Traffic Court Records
No single docket holds every Randall County traffic case. An Amarillo ticket belongs with Amarillo Municipal Court. A Canyon ticket belongs with Canyon Municipal Court. County or state-agency citations can land in JP 1, JP 4, or JP 4A. Which one depends on the issuing agency. The current Randall directory lists no JP 2 or JP 3. The court record itself may show the citation, plea, settings, payments, disposition, and orders. A city or JP payment screen is not a district-court docket. Your best routing document is the citation. It names the court and the answer or appearance date.
Three Randall Citation Systems
Amarillo, Canyon, and the Randall justice courts each run their own route. Amarillo's court of record handles Class C misdemeanors and city-code matters. Canyon hears its own Class C and ordinance cases. The JP courts take citations assigned to their precincts. That includes matters from agencies named on the JP pages. Do not start with the county Tyler portal just because the stop happened in Randall County. Check the citation heading first. If the issuing court is unclear, contact the agency on the ticket or the current Randall JP directory.
| Citation source | First court route | Record holder |
|---|---|---|
| Amarillo city | Amarillo Municipal Court | City court |
| Canyon city | Canyon Municipal Court | City court |
| Sheriff, DPS, TABC, Parks, WTAMU | Named Randall JP | Issuing precinct |
Looking Up a Traffic Ticket
For Amarillo, the official resolution page links the municipal vendor. It also describes how to pick the court and what identifying data to enter: citation or driver-license number, name, date of birth, vehicle information, and violation. Canyon links its own municipal payment portal. A new Canyon citation may not appear until the next business day. It could also take a few days later. Treat that timing as city guidance, not a rule for every Randall County traffic ticket.
- Read the citation and identify the issuing court.
- Use the citation number in that court’s official portal.
- If allowed, use the name and date of birth when the ticket is not at hand.
- Call, email, or visit the court if a new citation has not posted.
- Record the response date, setting, status, and approved response channel.
A phone call can confirm details, but Canyon says a call is not an appearance. Follow the court's written appearance directions instead.
Amarillo Traffic Ticket Portal
The Amarillo online portal handles citation resolution and payment for Amarillo Municipal Court only. It is not a countywide docket. The city describes search controls including court, citation or driver-license number, name, birth date, vehicle information, violation, and a disposition choice. The official municipal payment route shows the city-specific interface a ticket holder will meet.

That screen serves city citation work only. A Randall JP ticket must go to its precinct, and a Canyon ticket must use Canyon's court.
| Search field | Type | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Court | Selection | Choose the issuing bench |
| Citation or license number | Identifier | Find the ticket |
| Name and date of birth | Identity fields | Match the city case |
| Vehicle and violation | Case details | Confirm the correct citation |
Find Randall County Traffic Dates
The citation lists the first response or appearance date. Later, the court docket can add a hearing, virtual setting, trial, compliance date, or reset. Confirm the date shortly before you act. A court notice can supersede the portal. Canyon's current page says all municipal trials and dockets are canceled until further notice, which conflicts with older general FAQ text, so contact Canyon for the current status.
| Citation number | The issuing court’s identifier, such as the number printed on the ticket. |
|---|---|
| Court | Amarillo, Canyon, or the named Randall JP. |
| Date and time | The response, appearance, hearing, or trial setting. |
| Setting type | Walk-in, virtual, trial, compliance, or other court event. |
| Status | Pending, reset, paid, disposed, or warrant status as shown. |
The Randall County court dates resource explains county-level setting terms. Confirm any municipal date with the city court.
Canyon Tickets May Post Later
Canyon's FAQ says a newly issued citation may not show online right away. It can stay hidden until the next business day or several days later. If it stays absent, the city directs you to email the court. Include your full name and date of birth. Use a secure channel. Give only what the court requests. The city's background instructions permit several response routes. Options include in person, mail, email, and virtual methods subject to approval. Its current cancellation notice controls over the older routine language. Remember that a missing online ticket does not erase the date printed on the citation.
Current-status check: Contact Canyon Municipal Court before relying on an older docket schedule or virtual-court instruction.
Pay or Contest a Ticket
Paying and pleading not guilty are different choices. Amarillo warns that payment under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 27.14(c) works like a guilty or no-contest finding, waives a jury trial, and may be reported to DPS. Contesting means a not-guilty plea and a court setting. Written motions are required in Amarillo. Oral motions are not accepted.
| Paying | Contesting |
|---|---|
| Uses a plea and can produce a conviction | Uses a not-guilty plea and a later setting |
| May be online, by phone, mail, drop box, or counter where offered | Must follow the issuing court’s plea and motion rules |
| Amount and processing charge must be confirmed | Trial or hearing details come from the court |
Never treat payment as a neutral way to close the account. Read the official instructions and get advice from a qualified source if the consequence is unclear.
Missed response date: Failure to appear can lead to added action or a warrant. Contact the issuing court at once and follow its current clearance instructions.
Payment Changes the Court Record
That Amarillo warning is a local reason to read before you click. Once accepted, payment can become the court disposition rather than a simple receipt. The city's citation resolution page also describes deferred disposition and driver-safety options for eligible cases. The official citation-resolution page lays out the city's separate process. It shows the deliberate choice it demands.

Eligibility, documents, deadlines, and fees can all change. Ask the court before selecting or paying for an option.
Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record
Two offices keep two different files. The city or JP clerk holds the court case record. It covers a Randall County traffic ticket. Texas DPS keeps the separate driving history. A court record can show the citation, plea, hearings, payment, and disposition. A DPS product reports the driving-history fields the state maintains.
| Court traffic record | DPS driving record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept by | Issuing city or Randall JP | Texas DPS |
| Shows | Citation, plea, setting, disposition | State driving-history entries |
| How to obtain | Court portal or clerk request | Official DPS request route |
A DPS driving record may show a dismissal or disposition in a different field than the court file does. When the question is what the judge or clerk actually recorded about a Randall County ticket, pull the court file itself.
Randall Driver-Safety Timelines
Randall County JP 1 wants a driver-safety request in before the answer date, sent by certified mail with return receipt or by email. You will need a valid Texas license or permit. Bring proof of financial responsibility, plus the other qualifications the court lists. Once the court sends its affidavit, you have 15 days to file the required papers. The citation is then deferred for 90 days. You finish an approved course and a certified DPS record in that window.
Fees differ by court. Keep them separate. JP 1 posts $144 total, a $10 administrative cost plus $134 in court cost. The JP 4A checklist from August 2025 adds a $12 DPS-record fee of its own. A failure can end in conviction. That can also bring a $15 time-payment fee and a capias pro fine warrant. None of these figures should be merged into a single countywide price.
Note: Use the checklist from the court named on your citation. Confirm every amount and deadline with that court before you submit a request.
Copies and Randall Traffic Fees
Ask the issuing city or the JP clerk for a copy of the citation file. Give them the citation number, your name, the court, and the document you want. Include a disposition date if you know it. Say whether you need an ordinary or certified copy. Ask how it will be delivered. There is no single countywide fee for traffic copies, so let the clerk quote the current amount.
| Item | Supported fee | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Plain citation-file copy | Not uniformly published | Ask issuing clerk |
| Certified disposition | Not uniformly published | Specify certification |
| JP 1 driver-safety process | $144 listed | Process cost, not copy fee |
| JP 4A DPS record | $12 listed | Checklist-specific state record |
The JP payment pages refuse personal checks, and paying by card can add an upcharge. Never mail cash. Call first to see whether payment by phone is an option before you hand over any payment data.
Verify Randall County Traffic Tickets
Notices shift, so double-check before you rely on them. Amarillo ran a compliance campaign in February 2026. It had date-limited voluntary and enforcement windows, and that is not a permanent warrant rule. Canyon's cancellation notice deserves a live check too. A vendor screen, an old FAQ, or a dated news story is no substitute for the issuing court's current instruction.
Before acting on a Randall County traffic ticket, verify the court, the citation number, the response date, the current setting, your plea status, the amount, and the approved way to respond. Keep proof of whatever you submit. If the ticket never shows up online, call the court instead of letting the printed date slip by.
